MONTANEZ ADOBE RE-OPENS!
Currently open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 am to 2 pm, the City is seeking volunteers interested in the history of the Montanez Adobe, the Los Rios Historic District and San Juan Capistrano to sign up as docents so the Adobe can be open on a more regular basis. Just go to this link and complete a City Volunteer Application form, marking your area of interest as "other" and writing in "Montanez Adobe docent," and submit it to the Human Resources Department. The City's Historic Preservation Manager, Teri Delcamp, will then contact you about the program. You may also contact her if you have any questions at tdelcamp@sanjuancapistrano.org.
The City of San Juan Capistrano is committed to preserving its unique cultural heritage. In 1996, the City adopted the motto “Preserving the Past, to Enhance the Future.” In 2003, the City created a Historic Preservation Manager position to oversee its historic preservation programs. The City maintains a list of designated landmarks as well as a list of potential landmarks; owns a number of historic properties; has a Cultural Heritage Commission; and sponsors or participates in a variety of historic and cultural events and activities including architectural and historic walking tour docent training and an annual Historic Preservation Week celebration.
