Cities, water providers team up to host free educational forum

San Juan Capistrano is teaming up with Dana Point, San Clemente and the South Coast Water District to host a water conservation and storm-water quality forum Aug. 14 – in an effort to help improve the environment.

The forum, dubbed “H2O for HOAs” is designed to educate and inform homeowner associations and property managers on ways to improve landscapes, reduce water waste and urban runoff – and lower water bills.

The forum, also hosted by the Municipal Water District of Orange County and the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the San Juan Capistrano Community Center, 25925 Camino del Avion.

Attendees will enjoy a free lunch while learning about the latest regulations, available resources and technologies. Vendors will showcase products that qualify for rebates, and representatives from local agencies will be on hand to answer questions.

City officials say the forum will benefit the environment and south county communities as a whole.

“We know water can be an association's biggest monthly expense,” said Francie Kennedy, San Juan Capistrano’s water conservation coordinator. “We want to help keep those bills under control, while educating HOAs about the latest landscaping techniques and storm water quality issues.”
