50-foot tree arrives in town for holiday season
Posted Date: Fecha de Publicación: 10/9/2007 7:15 AM

The holiday season has arrived a bit early in San Juan Capistrano, with the delivery of a roughly 50-foot tree from Northern California to Historic Town Center Park on Monday. The tree is part of pilot program to benefit the community during the holiday season and the City’s annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Dec. 1.

Locally based Victor’s Custom Christmas Trees, Inc. selected the City to receive the lush tree at no cost as part of a training program for its staff, which will learn how to plug branches to make the tree fuller – along with the art of decorating. The tree will be adorned with more than 4,000 magnificent sparkling lights.

Throughout the next few weeks, workers will be busy at the downtown park on El Camino Real decorating and preparing the tree for the holiday season and time-honored community event. To keep the tree fresh and protected, it will be sprayed with an environmentally friendly flame retardant. Since the park is archaeologically sensitive, there will be no staking in the ground. The tree will be secured by above-ground tensioned cable.

The tree, which will be located on the west side of the pristine park near the stage, will be removed after the New Year. There will be no traffic impacts or street closures on El Camino Real while the tree is being decorated.

The community is invited to witness the unveiling of the spectacular “Holiday Tree” on Dec. 1 as part of the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. Festivities kick off at 4:30 p.m. at Historic Town Center Park, off of El Camino Real and Ortega Highway.
